Description: This has always been one of my most fave older pics. The B727 is my favorite jetliner; especially the loud and smokey 727-100s, and this UA livery has also always been my personal favorite (probably for nostalgic reasons) even though I know this is not the paint that was recently selected to be the UA "retro" scheme.
Back when these pics were taken, 727s were the jetliners that every major airline just HAD to have. On a daily basis, B727s flew in and out of airports as frequently back then as B737s do today. And the smoke trail and noise they made wouldn't be tolerated at all today, but it sure looked and sounded awesome to me back then.

* Info Update .. July 9, 2013: Further research by HSS's Dave G. (planeviz) has determined that this a/c saw service later as N928UP. It eventually was wfu and ended up at Roswell. *

They were the best Gary, lots of fond memories of those smoky beasts clawing for altitude! Thanks for posting these.

Favorite Airplane: All the old propliners (Connies, Electras, Convairs, Viscounts, etc) and the old DC-8s, 707s, 727s, and Caravelles.
Re: Photo 13: Boeing 727-100

Tks, guys. Chris, I like the description "smoky beasts clawing..." . (Grin) They sure were smoky; environmentally unfriendly for sure, but looked cool. And Steve and Ryan: I agree, that UA scheme fits perfectly with the 727s design.

Very nice photo, Gary, and do I see the outline of a cargo door on this aircraft? Interesting if so.... hmmm
